Our Heanor Games Night Opening
Dreamscape’s Heanor games night was another small but important step in building calmer community spaces.
Games nights might sound simple, but for some people, walking into a room with people they do not know can feel huge.
That is why Dreamscape does things gently.
The aim is not to force people to be loud, confident or instantly social.
The aim is to create a space where people can sit down, play a game, chat if they want to, watch for a while, or simply be around others without pressure.
Board games can make connection feel easier because there is something to focus on.
You do not have to think of the perfect conversation starter.
You do not have to know what to say straight away.
You can join in slowly.
For our Heanor opening, we also had Billy Sweet join us with live music, singing familiar classics including Elvis, Dean Martin and Frank Sinatra.
That added something really lovely to the evening.
Music can soften a room.
It gives people something to enjoy together, even if they do not feel ready to talk much yet.
For Dreamscape, opening spaces like this in Heanor matters because local community should feel accessible to people who may find traditional social spaces overwhelming.
Some people come to make friends.
Some come because they feel isolated.
Some come because they want to try something new.
Some come because they need a reason to get out of the house.
All of those reasons are valid.
This is what Dreamscape is about.
Small steps.
Kind spaces.
Low-pressure connection.
Community that grows gently.
A big thank you to Billy Sweet for bringing music to the evening, and thank you to everyone who supports, shares, attends or quietly follows along.
Every small moment helps Dreamscape grow.
