Community Companions

Dreamscape Community Companions are calm, kind and trusted people who help community spaces feel easier to access.

They may support gentle arrivals, low-pressure meet-ups, everyday confidence steps, shopping support, getting out of the house or feeling less alone in community spaces.

This pathway is still growing.

At the moment, Marybeth is the main named Dreamscape Community Companion and Community Lead.

What is a Community Companion?

A Community Companion is someone who offers a calm, steady and non-judgemental presence.

They are not there to take over.

They are there to help everyday steps feel more possible.

This could mean helping someone arrive at a Dreamscape session, sit in a new space, go shopping, attend a community place, get out of the house, or build confidence slowly.

Support is always based on suitability, safety, boundaries, availability and consent.

How Community Companions may help

At Dreamscape sessions

Helping someone arrive, settle in, understand what is happening and feel less alone at a meet-up.

Everyday confidence

Supporting small steps such as getting out of the house, visiting a new place or trying something again.

Shopping support

Helping an adult feel calmer and less alone when going to shops or managing a busy environment.

Getting out with children

Some adults may need gentle support getting out with their children, such as going to a park, shop or family-friendly space.

This is not childcare.

Community spaces

Supporting someone to access a community group, local venue, appointment space or public place where suitable.

Calm presence

Sometimes support is simply having someone kind nearby while taking a difficult step.

Current availability

The Community Companion pathway is currently developing.

At the moment, support is limited and led mainly by Marybeth, Dreamscape’s Founder and Community Lead.

This means Community Companion support may not always be available straight away.

Dreamscape will grow this pathway carefully with the right training, safeguarding, boundaries and volunteers in place.

If you would like to ask about support, you are welcome to contact Dreamscape and we can let you know what may be possible.

The Community Companion pathway

Dreamscape Community Companions can support in different ways depending on training, suitability, confidence and boundaries.
A calm, welcoming presence within Dreamscape sessions, businesses, venues or community spaces. This may include helping people feel welcome, offering a gentle hello and understanding the Dreamscape approach.
A Companion who may offer more direct support with everyday confidence steps, Dreamscape sessions or agreed community access where suitable. This level needs extra guidance, training and checks.
An experienced and trusted Companion who may support sessions, guide other volunteers, understand safeguarding routes and help keep Dreamscape spaces calm and organised.

Important note

All levels depend on suitability, training, references, safeguarding requirements, availability and Dreamscape's capacity.

Meet our current Community Companion

Marybeth

Marybeth

Founder, Community Lead and current named Community Companion

Marybeth created Dreamscape from lived experience, kindness and a belief that community should feel calmer, safer and more human. She supports Dreamscape spaces, gentle arrivals, community connection, everyday confidence steps and the growing Community Companion pathway.

Business and Safe Space Supporters

As the pathway grows, some businesses, venues and community spaces may support Dreamscape by offering calmer spaces, awareness, practical support or a kind welcome. Only supporters who have agreed to be shown publicly will be added here.

What Community Companions are not

Community Companions are not therapists, counsellors, crisis workers, medical staff, carers or childcare providers.

They do not replace professional services, emergency support, safeguarding services, mental health crisis care or medical advice.

They do not provide personal care, childcare, medication support or emergency response.

Children remain the responsibility of their parent, carer or responsible adult at all times.

Clear boundaries help keep everyone safer.
