Volunteer with Dreamscape Community Connections C.I.C.

Become a Dreamscape Community Companion

Dreamscape Community Companions are volunteers who help create calmer, safer and more welcoming spaces in the community. This role is for people who care about gentle connection, inclusion and helping others feel less alone. You do not need to be loud, confident or perfect. You just need to be kind, reliable and willing to learn the Dreamscape way.

What Is A Dreamscape Community Companion?

A Dreamscape Community Companion is a trained volunteer who offers a calm, friendly and non-judgemental presence.

Community Companions help people feel more settled, welcomed and supported in low-pressure community spaces.

They may support Dreamscape sessions, help people feel less anxious when arriving, offer gentle reassurance, support everyday confidence steps, or help make community spaces feel more accessible.

This is not about fixing people.
It is about being a safe, steady and kind presence.

Small acts of calm support can make a big difference.

What Community Companions May Help With

Depending on training, suitability and agreed role, Community Companions may support in gentle, practical and low-pressure ways.

Welcoming People

Offer a calm, friendly welcome at Dreamscape sessions and help people feel less alone when they arrive.

Supporting Sessions

Help create calm, accessible spaces during meet-ups, workshops, walks, socials and community events.

Everyday Confidence

Support small steps such as attending unfamiliar places, building confidence, or being part of gentle community outings.

Shopping Support

Where appropriate, Companions may support low-pressure shopping trips by helping someone feel calmer, plan the visit, or manage a busy environment.

Bridge To Other Services

Help someone feel less alone when connecting with other organisations, support services or community spaces.

Safe Signposting

Help people know where to find further support, while staying within clear Dreamscape boundaries.

Community Companion support is non-clinical and does not replace professional, medical, mental health, safeguarding or crisis services. Support depends on training, suitability, availability, safeguarding requirements and agreed boundaries.

Everyday Support, At A Gentle Pace

Some people do not need formal support straight away. They may simply need a calm person beside them while they take a small step back into the community.

Where appropriate, Dreamscape Community Companions may offer gentle, everyday support before, during and after someone accesses community spaces, appointments, activities or other services.

This may include things like building confidence before going somewhere new, attending alongside someone for reassurance, sitting nearby during an appointment, helping someone feel less alone when accessing another service, or offering gentle encouragement afterwards as they reflect on the experience.

Support may also include everyday confidence around small community steps, such as going to a shop, attending a new place, or managing an unfamiliar environment with a calm person nearby.

This support is always low-pressure, non-clinical and based on clear boundaries. It is not therapy, personal care, crisis support, or taking over somebody's life.

It is about helping people feel steadier, safer and more supported as they reconnect with community in a manageable way.

A little support can make a big step feel more possible.

What Community Companions Are Not

Dreamscape Community Companions are not therapists, counsellors, crisis workers, medical staff or clinical professionals.

They do not replace professional services, emergency support, safeguarding services or mental health crisis care.

Their role is to offer calm, practical, low-pressure community support within clear boundaries.

Some Community Companions may have other qualifications, experience or professional backgrounds, but when acting as a Dreamscape Community Companion they are not operating in that professional, clinical or therapeutic role.

Their role within Dreamscape is always centred around safe, boundaried, community-based support.

  • ✓ Not therapy
  • ✓ Not crisis support
  • ✓ Not medical care
  • ✓ Not a replacement for professional services
  • ✓ Not ongoing private support without boundaries
  • ✓ Not responsible for fixing someone's life

Clear boundaries help keep everyone safer — the person being supported and the Companion too.

Who Can Become A Community Companion?

You may be a good fit if you want to help create calmer, kinder and more accessible community spaces.

  • You are aged 18 or over
  • You are kind, patient and reliable
  • You understand that people move at different paces
  • You can respect boundaries and confidentiality
  • You are willing to complete training and onboarding
  • You can support people without taking over
  • You believe community should feel safe and inclusive
  • You can follow safeguarding guidance where needed
  • You are open to learning the Dreamscape way

You do not need to have everything figured out. We are looking for people who are willing to learn, listen and support others in a calm, respectful and boundaried way.

Volunteer Time Commitment

Dreamscape Community Companions are volunteer roles, built to be supportive, flexible and rooted in choice.

We understand that people have different lives, energy levels and responsibilities. We do not want volunteering to feel overwhelming.

At the same time, because trust and consistency matter, we ask Community Companions to commit to a minimum of:

5 hours per month for the first 4 months

This helps us create a steady, safe and reliable experience for Dreamweavers, volunteers and the wider Dreamscape community.

This time may include:

  • ✓ Supporting Dreamscape meet-ups or events
  • ✓ Attending training or onboarding
  • ✓ Joining volunteer updates or check-ins
  • ✓ Helping with calm community presence
  • ✓ Supporting agreed activities within your role
  • ✓ Reflecting on what feels manageable and suitable

After the first 4 months, we can review what feels manageable and suitable for you, Dreamscape and the community.

Important note: All volunteer hours are agreed around role suitability, availability, training, safeguarding requirements and Dreamscape Community Connections C.I.C.'s needs.

A Gentle Pathway Back Into Confidence, Purpose & Possible Work

For some people, the Dreamscape Community Companion pathway may be more than just volunteering or helping within the community.

It may also offer a gentler step for people who:

  • Struggle with full-time work
  • Feel overwhelmed by traditional working environments
  • Want to rebuild confidence slowly
  • Hope to return to work in the future
  • Need a calmer, more flexible starting point
  • Want to feel useful, involved and connected again

Not everybody can step straight into full-time employment, fast-paced workplaces or high-pressure roles.

Some people need something softer first. Something that helps them rebuild confidence, routine, trust in themselves and a sense of purpose in a way that feels safe and manageable.

For some, the Community Companion pathway could become a way to gently build:

  • Confidence
  • Communication
  • Community involvement
  • Routine
  • Trust
  • Experience within a supportive setting

Over time, this could help some people feel more ready for wider opportunities, whether that means volunteering more, taking on greater responsibility, exploring training, or moving towards employment in the future.

This is not about pressure or pushing people before they are ready. It is about creating a meaningful, supported pathway where people can grow at their own pace.

You do not have to be ready for everything. Small steps still matter.

The Dreamscape Way

Community Companions support people through calm, choice and low-pressure connection.

Calm

We aim to bring a steady, gentle presence into community spaces.

Choice

People are supported to take part in the way that feels right for them.

Consent

Support is never forced. People remain in control of their own pace.

Boundaries

Clear limits help keep support safe, respectful and sustainable.

Inclusion

We welcome different communication styles, needs, energies and ways of being.

Community

Companions help people feel less alone and more connected.

The Dreamscape way is gentle, practical, respectful and rooted in care.

Community Companion Pathway

Dreamscape is developing a gentle volunteer pathway so people can support in a way that is clear, safe and manageable.

Level 1 — Aware Companion

Supports calm welcomes, awareness, gentle presence and safer spaces within Dreamscape sessions, businesses, venues or community spaces.

This level may suit individuals, small businesses, cafés, shops, venues or community spaces who want to understand the Dreamscape approach and help people feel more welcome.

Level 2 — Supported Companion

May offer more direct community support with guidance, training and clear boundaries.

This may include supporting people during agreed sessions, gentle community activities, everyday confidence steps or low-pressure outings where appropriate.

Level 3 — Lead Companion

May support sessions, volunteers and community activity with higher responsibility, training and safeguarding awareness.

This level may include helping guide sessions, supporting other Companions, and helping maintain the Dreamscape approach in practice.

Important note

All roles depend on suitability, training, safeguarding requirements, references, availability and the needs of Dreamscape Community Connections C.I.C.

The pathway is designed to grow carefully. Nobody is expected to step into responsibility without guidance, boundaries and support.

Supporting Dreamscape At Events

As Dreamscape grows, Community Companions may be invited to support us at community events, fundraising days, awareness events or local activities.

This may include events such as Elvaston Steam Rally, community fairs, fundraising events, calm spaces, information stalls, creative activities or other Dreamscape-supported community days.

Support at events may include:

  • Helping with a calm welcome
  • Supporting Dreamscape's stall or information area
  • Helping create a quieter or more accessible space
  • Supporting activities in a low-pressure way
  • Helping people feel settled and included
  • Being part of the Dreamscape presence at community events

You will only be asked to support events that are suitable for your role, training, availability and agreed boundaries. You are not expected to say yes to everything.

If you have questions about volunteering at events, please reach out by email or WhatsApp and we will be happy to talk it through with you.

  • References where needed
  • Training and guidance

Want To Bring Dreamscape To Your Area?

Are you based somewhere else in England or Wales and feel drawn to the Dreamscape approach?

As Dreamscape grows, we would love to hear from people who may want to help bring calm, low-pressure community spaces to their own area.

This could include people who are interested in becoming a Dreamscape Community Companion, supporting local sessions, helping build gentle community connection, or exploring whether Dreamscape-style sessions could be developed where they live.

Important note:

Running sessions in a new area would not happen instantly or independently. Any future local Dreamscape activity would need to be shaped carefully through Dreamscape Community Connections C.I.C., with clear training, safeguarding, boundaries, planning, support and approval.

This may be for you if:
You believe community should feel calm, inclusive and low-pressure
You want to help people feel less alone in your local area
You are based in England or Wales
You are willing to follow the Dreamscape approach and guidance
You understand that safety, consistency and trust matter
You would like to explore this slowly and properly with us

You do not need to have a full plan ready. You can simply tell us where you are based and why you feel drawn to Dreamscape.

Complete Volunteer Form

Please include your location and mention that you are interested in future local Dreamscape sessions.

Contribution Fees & Costs

Completing the volunteer form is free.

Dreamscape Community Companions are currently voluntary roles, and we want the pathway to feel accessible, supportive and transparent.

As the Community Companion pathway grows, some areas of involvement may involve costs or contribution fees. This could include things such as training, resources, ID, guidance materials, DBS checks where needed, insurance/admin support, or future local session set-up support.

Any costs or contribution fees would always be explained clearly before you agree to anything.

There will be no hidden costs, and completing the form does not commit you to paying for anything.

If cost would be a barrier, please still speak to us. We want to explore this pathway with care, fairness and transparency.
